“ACTion speaks louder than words but not nearly as often.”
What is the ACT® label about?
The potential to minimize the environmental footprint of laboratories through smarter purchasing decisions is immense. The ACT® Environmental Impact Factor Label was created to meet the needs of both scientists and procurement professionals by providing clear, third-party verified data on the environmental impact of lab products. By focusing on Accountability, Consistency, and Transparency (ACT®) in areas such as manufacturing, energy and water usage, packaging, and end-of-life management, ACT® simplifies the process of selecting more sustainable products. Products bearing the ACT® label undergo independent audits by SMS Collaborative, LLC (SMSC) and are published by My Green Lab.
Understanding The Label
The criteria for the ACT® label, also referred to as the Environmental Impact Factor (EIF) criteria, were formulated with contributions from industry experts and external stakeholders. Valuable feedback from scientists, sustainability directors, procurement specialists, and manufacturers helped shape the EIF criteria, making it the most comprehensive product labeling program for life science products.
The ACT® label process involves third-party verification of a product's sustainable impacts, its operations, and its end-of-life management. Completing this process is a significant milestone that provides a baseline and framework for continuous improvement within the manufacturing community.
