Since the beginning of the cooperation, 2,263 typings have been financed. Now the cooperation enters its fourth round.

Kremsmünster, July 2024 – When chemotherapy or drug treatment is ineffective, a stem cell donation is the last resort in the fight against leukaemia, rare blood diseases and genetic defects. This is exactly where the association "Geben für Leben – Leukaemia Aid Austria" comes in: to find life-saving stem cell donors for these patients. Greiner Bio-One has been supporting the association since 2021 and uses its donation to finance typing (laboratory analyses). Since the start of the partnership, 2,263 typings have been funded (including 875 in 2023).

“Our mission at Greiner Bio-One is to empower people to make a difference in health. It is therefore very important to me to support charitable organizations such as the "Geben für Leben" association in their search for potential stem cell donors.”

Ilke Panzer, CEO of Greiner Bio-One International GmbH

A cheek swab can save a life

Any healthy person between the ages of 17 and 45 can be typed with a cheek swab to be available as a potential donor worldwide. If the HLA values (parts of the DNA) of the patient and the typed person match, the patient can potentially save the life of the sick person by donating stem cells.

“We are delighted to have the support of Greiner Bio-One. Each typing costs our association 40 euros, which we have to fully finance from donations.”

Susanne Marosch, Chairwoman of “Geben für Leben – Leukaemia Aid Austria“

Typing campaign planned at the Kremsmünster site

Greiner Bio-One has already organized three internal typing campaigns at the Upper Austrian locations, giving staff the opportunity to get quickly and easily typed at work. More than 100 employees have taken part up to now. Greiner Bio-One is planning an additional campaign for this year again in Kremsmünster.
